Crested Butte to Aspen Hike

Are you looking for a bucket list hike?  The 11-mile hike from Crested Butte to Aspen is stunning. This hike can take anywhere from 6-10 hours to complete based on your speed. This is considered a strenuous hike just because of the 2400 feet in elevation gain. A few options to consider when taking this hike: spend the night in Aspen once you arrive, be picked up by Dolly’s Shuttle or have Maroon Bells Shuttle transport your car over. 

Things to pack:

Plenty of water and food

Sunscreen (there is not much shaded areas on this trail)

Hiking poles

First aid kit

Proper layers

Dolly’s Shuttle can be used for transporting you to the trailhead. You can also arrange for them to pick you up at the trailhead the next day or pick you up in Aspen the same day. If you decide to drive your own car, you can park at Schofield Pass, but be warned that this is a popular mountain biking spot, and it will likely be full. Otherwise, head approximately one mile down the road to the actual parking area for the West Maroon Trailhead.

Reservations are required to access Maroon Bells Scenic Area once you arrive in Aspen. You can choose between private vehicle trailhead parking permits or shuttle reservations. This is the only way to get to Aspen proper from the trailhead. These reservations can fill up so you will want to do this as soon as you book dates for your trip.
